Gardone Riviera is a very traditional tourist village, in the sense that it has been developed as a spa resort town since the 1800s, and was an essential stop on the grand european tour so popular in those times. It has hosted a number of famous travellers of the time, inlcuding Byron, DH Lawrence, and more. As such, it has everything a tourist could want from the peaceful and elegant lake front promenade, to numerous shops and restaurants, to museums and tourist sights to see. Be sure to take in the “Vittoriale degli Italiani”, once residence of poet Laureate and founder of the futurist movement, Gabriele D'annunzio, and now one of Italy's most popular museums.
